COURSES
Intercultural Communication (Comm 3050) - 3 US semester credits:
This course provides students with the key concepts and theories surrounding intercultural communication. In our interdependent world, students of all majors need the intercultural communication knowledge, skills, and sensitivities to be able to function as citizens and employees.
Global Leadership (Global Studies 3100) - 3 US semester credits:
This class explores where students plan to go in the future as global-citizen-leaders in order to understand how to effectively intervene in systems in culturally appropriate and sustainable ways. Through readings, research, dialogue, and technology that connects us to the world, we will explore what it means to be a "global citizen leader" in a complex and ever-adaptive world.
Course instructors are from the USA as well as European universities.
Each course is worth 3 US semester credits and requires 45 hours of in-class instruction and 90 hours of homework.
This is an intense program and students are encouraged to complete some of the required reading ahead of time. Some Friday or weekend class/academic excursions will count as homework hours but the students will be intensely busy during the program. Although some Friday and/or the weekend time will be required for homework during the program, some weekends will be free for independent travel.
HOUSING:
Students will live in shared rooms at the European Study Center Château de Pourtalès, which is a 250-year-old castle nestled in a beautiful park near the EU institutions and Strasbourg city center. The castle has classrooms, lounges, a computer lab, wi-fi access throughout the facility, a library, laundry facilities, a breakfast room, a student kitchen, a TV lounge and bikes which are available for all students to use.
